Frequently Asked Questions - Girl with question marks above her headFrequently Asked Questions

You have frequently asked questions, we have the answers.

𝗤. Do you offer face to face lessons at home?

No, we conduct all our lessons online via Zoom.

𝗤. What subjects do you offer?

We offer online tuition in maths & English from Year 3 (KS2) to Year 11 (GCSE). We also provide SATs preparation for Year 6 and 11 Plus preparation from Year 4.

𝗤. How can you help prepare my child for their GCSE’s?

Our tutors will work with your child and focus on core topics/areas they need additional help and support in. They will also go through lots of practice papers together, focusing on exam techniques and looking at marking schemes so they know exactly what is being asked of them and what to expect.

𝗤. What happens in an online session?

Each session is tailored to meet the needs of your child. The tutor will work with your child to identify specific areas or topics they need support in.  Alternatively, they can focus on work they are completing in class, support with homework or work through the curriculum.

𝗤. What equipment do I need for online lessons?

You will need the following:

  • Laptop, computer or tablet
  • Internet connection
  • Zoom – download the software for free
  • A microphone and speakers (built into most computers) or headphones
  • A web camera is essential as this enables the tutor to gauge your understanding

𝗤. How do I join a session?

It’s easy, all you need to do is click on the zoom link, which will have been sent to you via email.  You can use the same link every week.

𝗤. What online tools do you use and why?

Tutors make the most of the online features including screen sharing, videos & the interactive whiteboards, which our tutors write or draw on to help explain concepts or work through problems with students. These tools keep lessons varied helping students stay motivated and engaged.

𝗤. Will there be homework?

Homework is typically provided each week in order to reinforce the learning in the lessons.

𝗤. Are all of your tutors experienced?

Yes, all of our tutors are experienced, qualified teachers, with enhanced DBS and either currently working in local schools or have extensive experience in teaching their specific subject and are now exclusively tutoring.

𝗤. Do any of your tutors have experience with learning disabilities or Special Educational Needs?

Yes, we have tutors who have worked with children with dyslexia, challenging behaviours and in Special Education Schools and are SEN trained.

𝗤. Do you offer half an hour sessions?

Yes, we offer a range of different duration sessions from 30 minutes up to 1 hour, depending on the needs of your child.

Q. How many sessions can I book at a time?

Sessions are booked and paid for in rolling monthly blocks.

𝗤. How often should my child have lessons?

This very much depends on the child and what they’re studying. Most children have regular weekly sessions at the same times each week.

𝗤. Why is online tuition important?

It gives your child the chance to learn at their own pace and in a way that matches their learning style. We have found that some children are often too shy to put their hands up in class, especially if they’re struggling. The reassurance of 1:1 tutoring means they can ask all the questions they want in a friendly and safe environment.

𝗤. Why do people have tuition?

Here are just some of the reasons students come to Teach Wessex for tuition:

  • To boost confidence
  • To fill in gaps
  • To supplement their school work
  • To improve their grade in a resit exam
  • When studying outside of conventional eduction e.g. home eduction
  • To prepare for an exam i.e. 11 Plus or SATs (Year 6)

𝗤. Do you offer a trial session?

We offer a trial session to all new students, before booking in regular sessions with a tutor. This gives students the chance to meet their tutor and get to know them and their teaching styles a bit better, discuss learning goals, and create a plan of action for future sessions.

𝗤. Do I have to pay for the trial session?

Yes, we charge our standard rates for the trial session (see our prices), and will then credit/refund this back to you following a further booking of 3 additional sessions.

𝗤. How much does a session cost?

Lessons are competitively priced and offer outstanding value for money. Take a look at our prices.

𝗤. How do I pay?

You will receive an invoice at the beginning of each month and can pays via BACs (Bank transfer).

My experience of Teach Wessex has been extremely positive and I am pleased to say the excellent tuition paid off at exam time. Here are some of the reasons why I would wholeheartedly recommend Teach Wessex tuition:- Katie’s administration was superb. She always kept us informed of any changes, texted reminders of sessions and communicated updates in a timely manner- Everyone at the company is professional and works with integrity- My daughter’s tutor, Gill, was knowledgeable. kind and calm- She taught at my daughter’s pace and linked sessions to her school work which ensured consistency of approach and learning- If we had a clash this was well managed and if notice given then sessions rearranged without fuss- Payment was regular and well handled.- My daughter felt valued and could see her progression which built confidenceOverall it has been an excellent experience and I would not hesitate to recommend Teach Wessex.

Our daughter had some private maths tuition with Gill leading up to her GCSE's. We couldn't have wished for a better tutor. The confidence it gave her, not only in maths but throughout every exam has been nothing short of amazing. Would we recommend Teach Wessex? Absolutely! Not only was the tuition 5☆, but also the communication from Katie, who kept us informed throughout the entire process. Gill/Katie, thank you again for all you help, I'm sure it will lead to better things for Emily.

We've been nothing but impressed with the service we've received from Teach Wessex over the past two years. My daughter's sessions have been engaging and well structured and she's made excellent progress. The communication from Katie is brilliant and the mock exams provided us with invaluable feedback on areas to focus on leading up to the 11+ exam, meaning that she was as well prepared as she could be come the day of the test. Highly recommend!

Teach Wessex is an absolutely brilliant service - couldn't recommend it highly enough. We have had 2 children tutored by Phil now, both of which have excelled towards their goals through his exceptional teaching. Phil and Katie go above and beyond with their approach to guiding children and their parents along the way.Quite simply wouldn't even think of going anywhere else should our kids need tutoring again in the future. Keep up the great work!
