Frequently Asked Questions
You have frequently asked questions, we have the answers.
𝗤. Do you offer face to face lessons at home?
No, we conduct all our lessons online via Zoom.
𝗤. What subjects do you offer?
We offer online tuition in maths & English from Year 3 (KS2) to Year 11 (GCSE). We also provide SATs preparation for Year 6 and 11 Plus preparation from Year 4.
𝗤. How can you help prepare my child for their GCSE’s?
Our tutors will work with your child and focus on core topics/areas they need additional help and support in. They will also go through lots of practice papers together, focusing on exam techniques and looking at marking schemes so they know exactly what is being asked of them and what to expect.
𝗤. What happens in an online session?
Each session is tailored to meet the needs of your child. The tutor will work with your child to identify specific areas or topics they need support in. Alternatively, they can focus on work they are completing in class, support with homework or work through the curriculum.
𝗤. What equipment do I need for online lessons?
You will need the following:
- Laptop, computer or tablet
- Internet connection
- Zoom – download the software for free
- A microphone and speakers (built into most computers) or headphones
- A web camera is essential as this enables the tutor to gauge your understanding
𝗤. How do I join a session?
It’s easy, all you need to do is click on the zoom link, which will have been sent to you via email. You can use the same link every week.
𝗤. What online tools do you use and why?
Tutors make the most of the online features including screen sharing, videos & the interactive whiteboards, which our tutors write or draw on to help explain concepts or work through problems with students. These tools keep lessons varied helping students stay motivated and engaged.

Homework is typically provided each week in order to reinforce the learning in the lessons.
𝗤. Are all of your tutors experienced?
Yes, all of our tutors are experienced, qualified teachers, with enhanced DBS and either currently working in local schools or have extensive experience in teaching their specific subject and are now exclusively tutoring.

Q. How many sessions can I book at a time?
Sessions are booked and paid for in rolling monthly blocks.
𝗤. How often should my child have lessons?
This very much depends on the child and what they’re studying. Most children have regular weekly sessions at the same times each week.
𝗤. Why is online tuition important?
It gives your child the chance to learn at their own pace and in a way that matches their learning style. We have found that some children are often too shy to put their hands up in class, especially if they’re struggling. The reassurance of 1:1 tutoring means they can ask all the questions they want in a friendly and safe environment.
𝗤. Why do people have tuition?
Here are just some of the reasons students come to Teach Wessex for tuition:
- To boost confidence
- To fill in gaps
- To supplement their school work
- To improve their grade in a resit exam
- When studying outside of conventional eduction e.g. home eduction
- To prepare for an exam i.e. 11 Plus or SATs (Year 6)
𝗤. Do you offer a trial session?
We offer a trial session to all new students, before booking in regular sessions with a tutor. This gives students the chance to meet their tutor and get to know them and their teaching styles a bit better, discuss learning goals, and create a plan of action for future sessions.

Yes, we charge our standard rates for the trial session (see our prices), and will then credit/refund this back to you following a further booking of 3 additional sessions.
