Private Tuition
Welcome to Teach Wessex. We provide online private tuition and interactive learning for children aged 8-16 years from the comfort of their own home.
At Teach Wessex it’s all about encouragement, problem solving and supporting our students to find their own way of doing things. We do this through exploring ideas, asking open questions, and using real life examples to aid better understanding of topics.
We run a very effective and well established 11 Plus Preparation Programme. These lessons are taught by experienced and qualified teachers, offering a great student to adult ratio (1:1 and 2:1) and allow students to work collaboratively.
Alongside this we offer a 1:1 Teaching Services in Key Stage 2 (including SATs), Key Stage 3 (maths & English) and GCSE’s (KS4). Our experienced tutors cover: Mathematics and English (KS2 up to GCSE), Grammar School entrance tests and all the fundamentals of early learning. It is a great opportunity for students to get some meaningful one to one time with a qualified teacher.
Our tutors are carefully chosen to provide a service that is reactive, meaning that the sessions are tailored to individuals students needs and have an element of free-flow to them, allowing for the students to have a say in what topics are covered, which helps build trust with their tutor. All tutors are qualified teachers with enhanced DBS and up to date PREVENT duty and Safeguard training.

How does it work?
Organising private tuition for your child is quick and simple and can be done in a few simple steps.
Step 1 – Get in touch
Please complete our enquiry form to contact us regarding your tutoring needs. Please be as detailed as possible.
Step 2. Getting to know you
We’ll give you a call to discuss how we can help support your child. We’ll ask you for the following information:
- Why you want tuition
- Current / target grades
- Exam board (if studying GCSE’s/ 11 Plus)
- How your child likes to learn
- Ares or topics to focus on
- Important dates coming up for tests/exams
- Literature texts (GCSE English only)
This information helps us identify the best fit tutor to help support your child’s learning.
Step 3. Trial session
Once we’ve identified a suitable tutor, we’ll set up a trial session that fits around your child’s schedule and afterschool activities. In this trial session, the tutor will spend time getting to know your child by building rapport and putting them at ease. They will start to assess your child’s knowledge and understanding of the subjects you have identified and work with your child to create a plan of how they’re going to work together to help them reach their goals.
Step 4. Feedback & next steps
After the trial tuition session we’ll get in touch to find out how the session went and if you want to book in regular weekly sessions. These will take place on the same day and time each week.
Step 5. Updates and Homework
Homework will be set by the tutor, with any worksheets or exam papers being posted or sent electronically, via email.
a k2024-10-25 Phil and Katie have been amazing and this is the place to let your child prepare for grammar school entrance exam-look for no other tuition as we cannot thank them enough for guiding and mentoring our son who passed two different grammar school entrance exams and get entry into grammar school (HGS and NHGS-Yorkshire). I cannot praise enough their professionalism blended with dedication and sincerity in helping our son. Thank you again and good luck to your future students! Carolina Tex2024-10-23 I would highly recommend Teach Wessex for 11+ tuition. Our teacher, Saphire, was very attentive, clear in her instructions and explaniots, and really cared about my daughter's learning. We are very happy after receiving excellent results after my daughter exam. Holly Harms2024-10-23 I can highly recommend Phil (and Katie!) as 11+ grammar preparation tutors. Phil is an experienced, engaging, personable and effective tutor who taught and helped my son successfully pass the 11+ exam in September 2024. He is very knowledgeable, and his enthusiasm for teaching and learning is evident and contagious! Tutor sessions were held online via Zoom - this worked well and enabled flexibility in our busy schedule! We also attended the Mock Exam sessions at Broadstone which helped my son prepare and gain confidence for the actual exam day. Phil and Katie are a great team: professional, incredibly supportive, and very organised! I can’t recommend them highly enough! Kate Moores2024-09-24 My son has attended the mock exams for his 11+ with Katie and Phil. After every mock the feedback was returned quickly and gave a full insight of the gaps in his knowledge to allow us to prepare him for the actual 11+. Seeing his scores increase after every assessment showed us how effective and invaluable this feedback was. I would highly recommend Teach Wessex and advocate undertaking all mocks offered. Leeanne Walters-Dove2024-05-22 My son had English and Maths revision with Lesley (English) and Gary (Maths) both were brilliant tutors, explains things in a way that my son understood, went over topics he had not covered at school properly and improved his knowledge over all. He is half way though his GCSEs now but the tutoring has taken away a lot of the stress as he feels more confident in his abilities. Would highly recommend Teach Wessex! Lorna Prout2024-03-05 Katie and Lesley have been great with my daughter. Lesley has been providing English (both language and literature) tuition for my daughter throughout years 10 and 11. Both have been super flexible fitting round our current schedules and Lesley has been so patient with my daughter who is severely dyslexic.
