Our aim is to prepare your child for success in the 11 Plus Entrance Exam, helping them secure a place at a Grammar School across Poole, Bournemouth and the wider Dorset area.

Changes to The Dorset Consortium test provider (from September 2027)
With effect from September 2027 (Year 7 admission in September 2028) The Dorset Consortium has decided to move to Quest Assessment as their entrance test provider. They will continue to test mathematics, English and verbal reasoning, but no content beyond the Year 5 National Curriculum will be tested.
The entrance test will comprise of three papers (maths, English and verbal reasoning), sat in the same session with a short supervised break. Each paper lasts 40 minutes.

Year 4 – 11 Plus Tuition
Year 4 is an ideal time to start preparing for the 11 Plus in a relaxed and informal way. Starting early allows your child to build a strong foundation in maths and English, giving them a greater understanding of the fundamentals needed to sit the entrance exam.
Starting early gives your child plenty of time to learn at a steady pace. It enables our tutors to identify any gaps in their learning, adapt their sessions where necessary and spend time focusing on consolidating and securing knowledge.
The core skills each Year 4 student should master are:
- Regular reading to enhance their vocabulary; 15-20 minutes a day
- Basic understanding of punctuation
- Solid timetables 1x to 12x
- Knowledge of the four operations (addition, subtraction, division and multiplication)
Year 5 – 11 Plus Tuition
11 Plus tuition in Year 5 will primarily focus on securing your child’s knowledge in the fundamentals of maths, English and Verbal Reasoning, so that they feel confident when going into the exam. We will also teach your child the essential skills needed to complete the 11 Plus.
Your child will learn new skills, cover parts of the Year 6 curriculum and have plenty of practice answering assessment questions.
The core skills each Year 5 student should master are:
- Continue to build on broadening their vocabulary needed for English comprehension and Verbal Reasoning papers.
- A good understanding of the spelling rules and help to spot difficult spellings quickly and confidently.
- Increase knowledge and speed of mental maths and times tables.
- Learn new maths skills including algebra, ratios, fractions, percentages, decimals, place value and problem solving.
